Our History

Welcome to Neerlandia Public Library!

The Neerlandia Public and School Library was established in 1973.  The Neerlandia Library Society was founded at the same time with six members to support the library with fundraising and its administration. In 1985 the school converted the whole basement into a library including washrooms.  There was also a separate entrance for public patrons. In 1992 with funding from the school board, a new library was built as addition to the school building. The Neerlandia Historical Society contributed money towards construction, becoming the third stakeholder in the library.  In 1997 the Neerlandia Public Library joined the Barrhead Public Library Board thus ensuring ongoing funding from the Province and the County. Neerlandia Public Library experienced a change in 2012 as plans for a new school for Neerlandia Public Christian School were announced.  The new school and a new school-housed public library opened in November 2015.

A more detailed history of the Neerlandia Public Library can be found in Barrhead Libray’s 50th Anniversary book “One of a Kind” the story of the Barrhead Public and School Library.  This title is available in our collection.
